Christianity Under Assault

Fox News continues to find ways to exasperate the liberals. Recently, Tiger Woods was the subject on a discussion panel when Brit Hume said, “The extent to which he can recover, it seems to me, depends on his faith. He is said to be a Buddhist. I don’t think that faith offers the kind of forgiveness and redemption that is offered by the Christian faith. So, my message to Tiger would be: Tiger, turn to the Christian faith, and you can make a total recovery and be a great example to the world.” With total predictability, the state run media went nuts. In the Washington Post Tom Shales demanded that Hume apologize, saying he had “dissed about half a billion Buddhists on the planet.” If the circumstances had be reversed with Woods recommending Buddhism to Hume, can one for a moment suppose that the loud objections would have been so forthcoming? To anyone who follows the trends and attitudes of the leftist media, the answer is obvious.

On MSNBC David Shuster complained that Hume had brought up Christianity “out of the blue” on a “political talk show.” Shuster clearly indicated that religion has no place in political conversation. David demonstrated his ignorance in two ways: first, Tiger Woods is not a political figure; therefore, Shuster has a shallow knowledge of the program he was carping about, and secondly, if he has the slightest clue about the present war on terrorism, he would know that religion and politics are often inseparable….ask any Jihadist! When Scott Klika mentioned his Christian faith to a group of adult patients at a private psychiatric hospital in Green Bay, Wisconsin, his supervisors asked that he not bring up the subject again. Three months later, though he had not spoken further about his religious beliefs, he was fired. According to Klika, his supervisors told him his faith was not in keeping with the beliefs of the hospital. After columnist Cal Thomas learned his appearance on ABC’s “Good Morning America” had been cancelled, he called the network to ask why. According to Thomas, he was told that the producers feared he would quote Bible verses on the air. There are scores of cases, some presently in court, that prove a growing anti-Christian bias in America. In government, education, media, law and business, Christians remain the last group that can be ridiculed and discriminated against with impunity. It is extremely unfortunate that the administration of the Green Bay hospital and others of like mind are so historically challenged. There was no such thing as a hospital until Christianity came along.

Aristotle, in laying down the laws for his ideal state, said, “Let there be a law that no deformed child shall be reared.” Varro, in giving rules for farming, advised that any aged slave who is past his work should be thrown out and left to die, just as a broken farm implement is thrown onto the rubbish heap. If the Christian ethic is removed, all that is good in the welfare state will be eliminated as well. It happened in Germany… Christianity was banished from the state, the gas chamber became the end of the aged, the poor and sick were used for medical experiments, the Jews were tortured and died by the thousands.

At the height of Athenian “culture” and Roman “virtue” asylums were unknown. To be helpless, was to be hopeless. Society rudely flung her burdens from her shoulders, and so faithful slaves who had lived beyond their days of service were cruelly slain, and even aged parents were turned out of doors to die of starvation.

Ancient India, with its masterpieces of religions and philosophy, had the principle of non-equality built into the fabric of Hindu society. The rules of untouchability pervaded the land. To the Jews, it was self-evident that they were the superior persons, members of the privileged people of God. It was not permitted for a Jew to enter the house of a Gentile or have unnecessary contact with them. These conclusions were arrived at through misguided traditions, not Scripture. Jesus sternly rebuked their attitudes.

The noble words of the Declaration of Independence state that “there are certain self-evident truths, among them the truth that all men are created equal.” Actually, the equality of all men is a purely Christian principle. The world’s ancient societies nowhere recorded this precept, nor declared it as self-evident.

To those who in their haste and zeal seek to relegate Christianity to the dark shadows of insignificance, a caution is appropriate. Let those who wish to enjoy the privileges of a Christian country remember that they will not savor them long if the nation ceases to be Christian. John Adams wrote, “ We have no government armed in power capable of contending with human passions unbridled by morality and religion. Our Constitution was made only for a religious and moral people. It is wholly inadequate for the government of any other.” In other statements Mr. Adams made it abundantly clear which religion he had in mind. There appears to be a simultaneous attack on Christianity and the Constitution…..can anyone connect the dots?
