Jefferson Was Right!

The liberal left has long been at work attempting to convince us that Thomas Jefferson was a Deist, which is by definition, one who believes in the existence of God but denies any kind of supernatural revelation such as the Bible. A Deist theoretically follows the light of nature and reason as his only guides in doctrine and practice. Jefferson said in 1781, “God who gave us life gave us liberty. And can the liberties of a nation be thought secure when we have removed their only firm basis, a conviction in the minds of the people that these liberties are a gift of God? That they are not to be violated but with his wrath? Indeed, I tremble for my country when I reflect that God is just; that His justice cannot sleep forever.” The last portion of the above quote appears on the Jefferson Memorial in Washington, D.C. It is preposterous to believe such a man had no consciousness of a personal God or the divine inspiration of the Scriptures. History revisionists find it necessary to separate our founders from the one Book that contributed the most influence in their molding of a body politic. This is part of a larger plan to march America into a secular, socialist can of worms. When President Obama said, “American is not a Christian nation,” he obviously chose to ignore the careful placement of cornerstones for this country.

Other quotes are attributed to Mr. Jefferson which are so telescopic in nature that one could almost be persuaded that he was transported to 2010 in a time machine. Every principle he elaborated upon can be accompanied with a Biblical concept. Some examples follow:

1. “When we get piled upon one another in large cities, as in Europe, we shall become as corrupt as Europe.” The first three cities found in the Scriptures are: (a) the one Cain the murderer built; (b) Babel where God confused the speech; (c) Sodom which God destroyed. Even Jerusalem has its negatives listed in Revelation 11:8.

2. “The democracy will cease to exist when you take away from those who are willing to work and give to those who would not.” This, of course, is what the majority of Congress has endorsed under the banner of the redistribution of wealth. Paul said, “For even when we were with you, this we commanded you, that if any would not work, neither should he eat.” (II Thessalonians 3:10)

3. “It is incumbent on every generation to pay its own debts as it goes. A principle which is acted upon would save one-half the wars of the world.” In the well-known “Lord’s Prayer” sins, by resemblance, are called debts---“And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.” (Matthew 6:12) When a debt is cancelled by the lender, it is said to be forgiven. Only God has the capacity to forgive the insurmountable; governments do not!

4. “I predict future happiness for Americans if they can prevent the government from wasting the labors of the people under the pretense of taking care of them.” The more government sponsors social safety nets, the more personal happiness is in jeopardy. The Psalmist added, “For thou shalt eat the labour of thine hands: happy shalt thou be, and it shall be well with thee.” (Psalm 128:2)

5. “My reading of history convinces me that most bad government results from too much government.” Jefferson never condemned the basic concept of government nor does God. A study of the Scriptures demonstrates God’s purpose in the establishment of human government, but as with all things, Proverbs 11:1 addresses the situation well: “A false balance is abomination to the Lord: but a just weight is his delight.”

6. “No free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms.” Jesus was in complete agreement with the second amendment when he said, “But now, he that hath a purse, let him take it, and likewise his scrip: and he that hath no sword, let him sell his garment, and buy one.” (Luke 22:36)

7. “The strongest reason for the people to retain the right to keep and bear arms is, as a last resort, to protect themselves against tyranny in government.” Nehemiah was commissioned by a Persian king to return to Jerusalem to rebuild the demolished walls of the city, providing protection for a returning remnant of Jews. His greatest adversary in the effort was the local government which resulted in “For the builders, every one, had his sword girded by his side, and so builded.” (Nehemiah 4:18)

8. In the light of present financial crisis, it’s interesting to read what Thomas Jefferson said in 1802: “Banking institutions are more dangerous to our liberties than standing armies. If the American people ever allow private banks to control the issue of their currency, first by inflation, then by deflation, the banks and corporations that will grow up around the banks will deprive the people of all property until their children wake up homeless on the continent their fathers conquered.” If the words ‘Federal Reserve,’ ‘Central Bank’ or ‘World Bank’ ring any bells with the reader, a necessary application can be drawn. In the dark of night on Christmas Eve, without Congressional approval, the United States Treasury just gave Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae a blank check to forge ahead in controlling the majority of home mortgages in the U.S. One of the last things that God destroys on this earth before the establishment of His kingdom (“thy kingdom come”) is the financial systems of the world because of their total dominance. (Revelation 18:9-16)

Jefferson the ‘Diest’ said, “The Bible is the cornerstone of liberty…I have always said, I will always say, that the studious perusal of the sacred volume will make better citizens, better fathers, and better husbands.”
