The Word's Eye View is a newspaper column written by
Mother (not the community organizer) Knows Best Sarah Palin continues to be a burr under the saddle of the liberals. If it were otherwise, they would simply ignore her and search for other targets on which to aim the cross hairs. The Associated Press assigned eleven reporters to fact check her new book, “Going Rogue.” Barack Obama, Al Gore and even Newt Gingrich have never received that kind of scrutiny. The greatest volume of analysis always surrounds the best horse in the race even by those who are betting on another one. Ellen Goodman, a syndicated columnist, wrote an op-ed entitled “Palin’s Book Is Painfully Full of Anger.” The article contains all the ingredients of hypocrisy in that it spues distain for Mrs. Palin’s credentials to occupy high office. I haven’t read “Going Rogue,” so it is impossible to comment on any anger expressed in it, but one thing is certain…the governor’s critics are plumb hostile. Msssss. Goodman, who characterizes Sarah as a barracuda, vehemently ridicules the idea that motherhood could contribute any qualifications for presidential aspirations. For the past 123 years the majestic statue “Liberty Enlightening the World” has towered above Bedlow Island near the entrance to New York harbor as a symbol of the freedom which we enjoy here in America. The famous sculptor, Bartholdi, gave twenty years of devoted effort to the work, personally superintending the raising of the subscription of $4,000,000 with which the French nation gave the statue to the United States. When the subscriptions lagged, Bartholdi pledged his own private fortune to defray the running expenses and practically impoverished himself over the work. At the start, when Barholdi looked for a model whose form and features he could reproduce as “Liberty” he received much contradictory counsel. One of the leading art authorities advised him that the statue should depict “figures of thought which are grand in themselves.” After examining outstanding heroes, Bartholdi chose as a model for the colossal masterpiece…his own mother. Who is more concerned about the freedom and liberty of her children than a dedicated mother? A successful mother would in all probability possess more skills than a community organizer. Consider the negotiations aptitude of a mom with multiple offspring: Sarah Palin constructed and enacted a system of splitting the oil profits called “ACES.” Exxon (the largest corporation in the world) protested, and Sarah told them, “Don’t let the door hit you in the stern on your way out.” They stayed and all Alaska residents received a bigger piece of the pie. Every good mother is an expert at mediation while risking unpopularity. For thirty years Exxon held a lease to do exploratory drilling at a place called Point Thompson. They made excuses the entire time as to why they couldn’t start drilling when in truth they were holding it like an investment. No governor for thirty years could motivate them into action, but Governor Palin told Exxon she was revoking their lease. While they were protesting and threatening court action, she shrugged and reminded them she knew the way to the courthouse. Once again, Alaska won. Managers of households would generally have a better grip on budget development and unnecessary spending than our elected officials seem to possess. When Mrs. Palin walked into the governor’s office she took the list of state requests for federal funding for projects, known as ‘pork.’ Extracting 85% of them and placing them in the ‘when hell freezes over’ stack, she let the locals know that if we need something built, we’ll pay for it ourselves. Every effective mother has participated in self-denial. Sarah dismissed the governor’s cook, remarking that she could cook for her own family; she gave back the state vehicle issued to her, maintaining that she already had a car and sent packing her state provided security force. In contrast, Queen Michelle Obama has twenty-two attendants, not including a makeup artist and a hairstylist who traveled with her on Air Force One to Europe and other destinations. There has never been anyone in the White House at any time who has created such an army of staffers whose sole duties are the facilitation of the First Lady’s social life. One wonders why she needs so much help, at the taxpayers’ expense, when even Hillary had only three aids, Jackie Kennedy one and Laura Bush one. The combined salary for these twenty-two ladies in waiting is $1,478,200. By virtue of their continued attendance, moms have discernment about health care that often surpasses the knowledge of the physician. Who is better at dispensing comfort than a consoling mother? There are times when a nation needs to hear more than “let’s not jump to conclusions” about a terrorist. Two thousand years ago a man who only sought the betterment of His people walked the earth; He had not graduated from one of the finer universities; He often spoke in folksy terms using earthy illustrations, but was uncompromising in pointing out national sins. He was adored by the commoners, but the elite felt threatened by His words and presence so they schemed and hired false accusers----finally they crucified Him! Hmmmm!
