The Word's Eye View is a newspaper column written by
A Better Weapon Political posturing is to be expected on the campaign trail. The concept is quite simple…locate a hot button that will create an emotional avalanche and continue to throw explosive rhetoric until all the snow has pummeled the slope. Frequently, the spring thaw reveals the massive destruction of grand old trees that have withstood the test of time.
The Obama administration is now faced with the stark reality of finding new principles and procedures that have sufficient root system to protect America from terrorist attacks. The president has declared previous methods torturous and, therefore, unacceptable even though there is zero evidence of anyone being permanently injured or killed. How this cutting edge morality can be reconciled with partial birth abortion is beyond this country boy, but political expediency finds strange bedfellows. On May 3rd the Associated Press reported, “The Obama administration may revamp and restart the Bush era military trial system for suspected terrorists as it struggles to determine the fate of detainees held at Guantanamo Bay and fulfill a pledge to close the prison by January.” The White House is already strongly hinting at the need for a time extension as they continue to assess the damage of the uprooted. Some of the Washington elite are anxious to put the former “misdeeds” on open display but have demonstrated no willingness to inform the public of the new methods of interrogation. Because they appear to be short on new offerings, a suggestion from a backwoods preacher may be applicable. First, it’s important to understand that the type of war we are engaged in is religious in nature. The history revisionist crowd seems reticent to admit this critical information but quick to point out that most wars in history were religious in their genesis. Why should we expect anything different now? The terrorists who have proclaimed themselves to be our enemy have labeled America as the great Satan and Israel as the little Satan. That certainly sounds like religious language. The Jihadists subscribe to a theology that insists that all non-Muslims convert or be put to death or subjected to slavery. Their authority for this is, in part, Sura 47:4 in the Koran which states, “When ye encounter the infidels strike off their heads till ye have made a great slaughter among them, and of the rest make fast the fetters.” To deny the existence of this mental programming is naive to the extreme. About now some of our liberal friends are rushing off to the basement in search of a Bible stored with a box of old National Geographics. In the dim recesses of their memory they recall God’s order to exterminate a group of people. Third grade Sunday School was so long ago. Oh yes! It was the Amalekites who were the baby killers offering their children up to be burned alive to pagan gods. Oh, oh….need a better illustration? God has repeatedly ordered invasion and execution and bondage of His own people by pagan nations to serve the purpose of judgment. The Koran never hints that any Muslim ought to be judged by anyone else for anything at any time. “Kill the infidels” is a general order. “Kill the Amalekites” was a specific order for a specific reason---their wickedness! It has been said, “Fight fire with fire.” The goal of Islam is to convert the world with the sword and to be sure this ambition is shared with Christianity; the distinctive difference is our sword is a book. (Hebrews 4:12) Most Muslim countries have long ago outlawed the presence of any Bibles within their borders. The Scriptures are a sword that is greatly feared, for a diligent study of it usually leads to conversion. Perhaps the Bible should be read 24 hours a day over a speaker system at Gitmo. The prisoners should be allowed to retain their Korans but given the Word of God for comparison’s sake. The Koran would be about the size of an average comic book if all references to Moses, Abraham, David and Jesus and other personalities and Biblical themes were eliminated. The grandest of all books invites inspection. One dozen evangelical preachers need to be imported weekly to witness and preach to the prisoners… the old fashioned kind who believe in a real Apostle Paul, the road to Damascus (interesting place) kind of conversion. The new birth relationship with God that changes minds, hearts and attitudes would be emphasized. Islam offers no grand solution short of martyrdom, but the Bible submits that Jesus Christ was martyred for us. Elijah stood on Mt. Carmen and challenged Israel to choose which God they would serve. Both gods were given ample opportunity to prove their mettle. If only Elijah was in the White House. When even the worst of humanity comes to Biblical repentance, they sing like a bird. It’s very conceivable that this form of enhanced interrogation would render more information than even waterboarding. Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid would probably label this primitive approach barbaric. The ACLU would twist a crankshaft, and the Supreme Court would close the drag strip. After all, why worry about results when we have an international reputation to protect?
