The Assault on Christianity

Recently President Obama attempted to convince a Turkish audience that America is not a Christian nation and that the United States is not at war with Islam. In a solo context this could be construed as rhetoric to satisfy political expediency. The real problem is that this ill-advised statement is but one brick of several that are beginning to resemble a real wall of anti-Christian sentiment that is being constructed by the administration. Even the Catholic population, of which 55% voted for Obama, is having considerable difficulty accepting the notion of him as a commencement speaker at Notre Dame. The entire scenario was exacerbated when Mr. Obama bowed profusely before a Muslim king in Saudi Arabia. The White House has searched diligently for a way to crawfish on that one, but we all saw it in irrefutable digital color. In truth, it may be a correct assertion that America is not Christian if the demographics are viewed from the standpoint of genuine Christianity versus professed religious affiliation.

The larger issue at stake has nothing to do with percentages but rather our national heritage which is clearly Christian. The U.S. Supreme Court supported this in an 1892 decision when they stated, “Our laws and our institutions must necessarily be based upon the teachings of the Redeemer of Mankind. It is impossible that it should be otherwise; and in this sense and to this extent, our civilization and our institutions are emphatically Christian.” It is reasonable to assume that those justices who were 117 years closer to the construction of the Constitution had a better grip of its meaning and intent.

The Old Testament is a collection of 39 books with 38 of them reminding ancient Israel of its spiritual and cultural heritage. Warnings were given in abundance not to forsake the Law of Moses and the mores that these precepts introduced into their society. Every single time the herd ran through the fence they found themselves being dominated by a foreign entity which destroyed their freedom and subjected them to untold misery. This penchant for something different was inevitably precipitated by a desire to celebrate diversity. In absolute disobedience they embraced pagan gods and a lifestyle that appeared to be less restrictive.

If the voices of Washington, the media and academia can convince the public that America is no longer Christian, the next obvious target would be the Constitution which is a collaboration of Biblical principles. The loss of liberty is seldom sudden but rather incremental in steps. America’s founding fathers believed that a widespread faith in the God of the Scriptures was the true source of America’s greatness. For years anti-Christian legal groups have led efforts to completely sanitize our nation of any Christian references by removing “in God we trust” from our currency; ending opening each session of Congress with prayer; ending Christmas as a national holiday; and eliminating the rank of military chaplains from our armed services. Long ago the public schools were wiped clean of Christian influence and yet too few can evaluate the degeneration of those institutions with a reasonable explanation. The convoluted logic of the left suggests that the unnecessary restraints of a Christian ancestry should be tossed aside so we can all live like the animals that the doctrine of evolution says we come from. The unforeseen complication of “sowing the wild oats” is that incarceration often follows. That is not only true for an individual but for nations. The steely resolve that has at times been demonstrated in this country did not come from Darwinism or an anti-God philosophy. To eliminate a Christian legacy will be tantamount to a parallel reduction in guts and determination to preserve sovereignty.

Barack Obama has signed an executive order allowing thousands of Palestinians to settle in the United States at taxpayers’ expense. After all, it’s a celebration of diversity to bring in multitudes of people who, as Mark Steyn described, are “marinated in a sick death cult,” who voted for Hamas, and 55% of which support suicide bombings/murders in the U.S. Egypt won’t take them; neither will Jordan, Syria or Saudi Arabia. All of the Arab countries have allowed Palestinians to fester for over 60 years. Each generation has become more radicalized, living lives that are so unproductive their only reward is to die as martyrs. Thomas Sowell, a syndicated columnist, writes, “However much Barack Obama has proclaimed his support for Israel, his first phone call as President of the United States was to Hamas, to whom he has given hundreds of millions of dollars, which can buy a lot of rockets to fire into Israel.”

Cultural vacuums are always replaced with something else. Is it possible that the enthusiasm to eradicate Christianity may result in a replacement that no one expected? I wonder how NBC would describe Mrs. Obama’s fashion statement in the context of Sharia Law?
