The Word's Eye View is a newspaper column written by
"Bible Predictions" Columnists most frequently address current events with occasional reflections on the past. It’s a well established fact that advancing on the thin ice of the future is dangerous, peradventure the prophesies evaporate, and one is made to look foolish. However, the first of the New Year carries with it the urge to pontificate about the next twelve months. I feel a certain security concerning these projections since their substance is extracted from the Bible ---- so here they are! 1. At this writing Palestinian militants have fired over 150 rockets and mortar shells across the border into Israel. The Israelis responded with air strikes and by appearances are prepared for a ground invasion. Self defense on the part of any other nation has at least a certain degree of acceptability, but Israel alone will incur the condemnation of the world. The media will continue to flash pictures of the desperate conditions of the Palestinians all the while ignoring what precipitated the conflict. Jesus declared to the Jews, “Then shall they deliver you up to be afflicted, and shall kill you; and ye shall be hated of all nations for my name’s sake.” (Matthew 24:9) Iran will continue to saber rattle and spew venom demanding the extermination of Israel. Others will join the chorus with some singing soft harmony while others will seek their own solo part. When a peace is finally forged in the Middle East, it will be a temporary false one conveyed by the antichrist. (Daniel 9:27) 2. On December 26th the Chinese announced the sailing of several warships to patrol the pirate waters off the coast of Somalia. This mission is totally out of character for China’s navy as they usually stick close to home guarding their own coast. The Associated Press reports “China’s willingness to send ships so far from home is also the latest example of the growing power and confidence of the country’s navy. In recent years the military has been loading up on warships, planes, missiles and other weapons ---a beef-up that has worried its neighbors and the United States.” The king of the east will continue to flex its military muscle and will become a source of increasing concern. (Daniel 11:44) I stand amazed that God drilled the bulls eye on this one 2500 years ago. 3. Politicians will continue to capitulate to a small minority of people who call themselves “gay.” The very word seems to suggest a harsh contradiction when they were throwing bricks through the windows of churches which supported Proposition 8 in California. The rapid advancement of the homosexual agenda is mentioned in a prophetic text where Jesus makes a comparison to Sodom and the last days. (Luke 17:28-30) 4. With Mr. Obama leading the way and Al Gore gaining advantage in the shadows, America will bleed green at an unprecedented rate. This will happen in spite of the fact that a growing army of scientists are calling the threat of global warming irrational hysteria that is incredibly biased. David Deming, geology professor at the University of Oklahoma states that global temperatures measured by satellite are the same as in 1980. Michael R. Fox, a retired nuclear scientist and chemistry professor at the University of Idaho, maintains there is little evidence that manmade carbon dioxide is causing temperature fluctuations but climate patterns have always been cyclical. James O’Brien, an emeritus professor at Florida State University who studies climate variability and the oceans, has said that “global climate change is occurring in many places in the world, but everything that’s attributed to global warming, almost none of it is global warming.” The voices of reason will be summarily dismissed in favor of an emotional fervor that has all the overtones of religious zeal. Two thousand years ago God had the foresight to forecast that the latter days would be punctuated with creation replacing the Creator as the object of worship. (Romans 1:20-25) 5. Periodically, I am asked where our next president fits into the prophetic scheme of Biblical truth. The jury is still out as it will take some time to watch the drama unfold.. However, if he strives to fulfill his campaign rhetoric, he could very well assume the role of the “raiser of taxes” in Daniel 11:20. If this turns out to be the case, time is short before some dramatic changes are destined to take place. To many the pending four horsemen of the Apocalypse are very frightening, but to some these events present a flavor of anticipation! “And when these things begin to come to pass, then look up and lift up your heads; for your redemption draweth nigh.” (Luke 21:28)
