Republicans, Quit Playing Dead

According to the Associated Press on August 17th, Nancy Pelosi, speaker of the Democratic controlled House of Representatives, has indicated a willingness to consider off-shore drilling for oil.  Hold the phone…wait a minute!  We have been told for years that opposition to exploration and domestic drilling was ground in granite based on bedrock convictions designed to protect the environment.  This sudden move toward sanity is clearly motivated by the Democrats fear of voter backlash in November due to current gasoline prices.  The obvious conclusion is that it’s politically correct to move away from a former “correct” position if enough public dissatisfaction is displayed.  So much for convictions…they seem to acquiesce to convenience.

Case in point:  Consider the nation’s present political campaign.  The media and comedians have tread very lightly around Mr. Obama’s race, were extremely cautious concerning Mrs. Clinton’s gender, but take every opportunity to target Mr. McCain’s age.  Perhaps seniors should rise in righteous indignation and demand equal respect.  Let us fill the boulevards of the Beltway with our wheelchairs, walkers, canes and motorized scooters.  Traffic should come to a halt until we become one of the sacred cows of correctness.  Boycotts could be organized and all advertisers should be blogged into submission until we old codgers are equally represented in commercials.  Away with the young and beautiful; we want Granny demanding the beef!  We’re sick of “Sleepless in Seattle;” we want more “On Golden Pond,” and we demand that it start at 4:00 p.m. so we can watch the entire movie before we go to sleep.

As regrettable as it is, that is the way the system works.  A recent California decision has ruled that a diploma from Christian high schools which teach creation is null and void because it has no scientific basis.  The ruling will undoubtedly hold only because most Christians are passive and will roll over and play dead rather than seek all avenues of  legal recourse.

The high school biology teacher has all the liberty in the world to belittle and humiliate any student who holds to the Biblical views of creation.  Over the last forty years I have had hundreds of teens relate to me incidents of ridicule.  It is highly unlikely that the same educator would extend identical criticism toward the Koran.  The reason is simple; the proponents of that position will get angry and hurt or kill you.

The conviction of evolution can melt into the tapestry of conformity if the opposition is strong enough.  It is not the Biblical position to resort to violence, but our voices gathered in unison should be heard as we still recite “one nation under God.”

The tentacles of modern political correctness are many but lack credibility in the light of Divine Truth and common sense.  It would be wonderful if Mrs. Pelosi and the Salazar brothers could grab a clue.  That will only happen if we make enough noise that will change their “convictions.”

“When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice: but when the wicked beareth rule, the people mourn.”  Proverbs 29:2
