A SERMON
OUTLINE By
Dr. James Modlish (Luke 22:7-20)
INTRODUCTION: The Lord's Supper was at the time of the Passover, and unlike any other Passover the disciples had ever witnessed, for Jesus was declaring himself to be the Passover Lamb. I. The Original Passover - (Ex. 12; Heb. 11:28) To avoid death - (1 Cor. 15:55-57; Jn. 10:27-30) Jesus always conquered death - no one could stay dead in Jesus' presence. II. (Num. 9:1-5,13) - To avoid bearing your own sins - (2 Cor. 5:20-21). The choice is to bear your own sin or have a Sin Bearer. III. (2 Chron. 30:1-12) - To avoid judgment and find compassion - (1 Thess. 1:10; 5:9). The best Old Testament remedy to avoid God's wrath was a Passover with a humble heart (vs. 11). To receive Christ is to humble yourself - pride is your greatest enemy. Someone will mock (vs. 10). IV. (2 Chron. 35; 1 Cor. 10:16-17) A. When you claim Christ as your Passover your service is not a burden, but a source of great blessing. (vss. 1-3) V. Joy - (Ez. 6:16-22) - To know Christ as your Passover is to know real joy. A sense of completeness, assurance of the future. Ours is not a sad, gloomy religion, but one of happiness and contentment, anticipation. VI. (Josh. 5:10-15) - To prepare you for the battles of life Notice they are about to march about Jericho and the Captain of their Salvation makes an appearance - Christ will give you direction. VII. The 7th - What else would we expect but Jesus Christ - Passover to be the last and perfect one!
