CHAPTER TWENTY TWO
The Search For A Bride

 

Intro: The setting is the kingdom of Heaven and the king already has a Son and He has a Bride. The missing ingredient is guests. Where did the Son get the Bride? The Holy Spirit brought her (as Abraham's servant brought Rebekah to Isaac). The woman had a choice (Gen. 24:7-10). (Vs. 10) he takes 10 camels. In (Jn. 4) Jesus is by a well taking to a woman who has no husband (vs. 17).

[1]. Her position (Eph. 5:21-33).
(a). She is the body of Christ (vs. 23,30).
(b). She is loved (vs. 25).
(c). She is being washed (vs. 26,27).
(d). She is many but one (1 Cor. 12:12-14). "But he that is joined unto the Lord is one Spirit" (1 Cor. 6:17).

[2]. Her preferential treatment

(a). Positioned us in Heaven, (Eph 1:19,20: 2:6,7).
(b). Weak ones are favored, (1 Cor. 12:22-27). Many get the idea that is an individual is weak, he isn't part of the body and he stands in jeopardy of being cut off. When people come to that conclusion it is always because they are looking at passages that are not directed at not dealing with the Bride!

[3]. Her perfection

(a). Presently - (Phil 1:16; Eph. 4:11,12).
(b). Future - (1 Cor. 3:9-15).

[4]. Her presentation - (Rev. 19:6-9; 11-16). Why do women love a wedding? Why do men love armies - something here for everyone.
[5]. Her purpose - Eph. 1:12.

Problems with Ruckman's interpretation of Matthew 22:

[1]. Was the bride ready prior to 70 A.D.?
[2]. Why does the city have to be Jerusalem - could it be the city of the World? (Rev. 17:16-18; 18:18).
[3]. Do the servants have only a historical application? See (Rev. 6:9-11).
[4]. Are all "guests" necessarily virgins?
[5]. The wedding is finally furnished with people who are bad and good - the bad are rejected in (Matt. 24 & 25).

22:1-14

1,2 Someday God is going to get His Son a bride, and have a marriage ceremony for them in the nature of a "feast." The Son is Jesus. The bride is the church. For feast see: (Matt. 26:29; Lk. 22;30; 12:35-38).

Note: The actual eating of the feast takes place after the wedding itself.

3,4 The Jews reject Christ at His feast coming, and slay His servants (Acts 12:1-6; 5:40) and God burns their city in 70 A.D.

8-15

[1]. Guest are not called virgins as in Matt. 25 and Rev. 7. They are numbered (144,000), they are not in the Church age. They are not "caught up" till the end of the Tribulation (24:30,31).
[2]. The whole passage jumps right over the entire Church age.
[3]. Guest have to be Tribulation saints.
[4]. Man without the garment is an uninvited guest.
[5]. "Friend" - used of Judas in (Matt. 26:50).

To tie these facts together would take at least another fifty pages of fine print. We may sum up the evidence by saying that the lost "guest" of (Matt. 22:11-14) is either a Tribulation "invitee" who did NOT endure to the end (see comparison 25:8; 25:30), or that it is Satan himself who will put in an appearance in Heaven after the rapture, and during the festivities of the marriage of the Lamb. Notice that the doom of the uninvited man without the wedding garment is: "bound hand and foot!" This will synchronize with (Rev. 20:1-3), which occurs at the end of the Tribulation.

[1]. Judas was a Devil, not a human (Jn. 6:70-71).
[2]. He went to "his own place," at death - not Hell (Acts 1).
[3]. He was the king of that place (Rev. 9).
[4]. His title, as such, was "the son of perdition" (Jn. 17:12).
[5]. This title is the title of the coming Anti-Christ (2 Thess. 2:1-6).
[6]. The coming Anti-Christ is called "the beast" (Rev. 13:18).
[7]. This "beast" is now in the Bottomless pit (Rev. 17:5-9).
[8]. He will go into perdition because he is the "son of perdition" (Rev. 17).
[9]. He will be Satan, incarnate in the flesh (Gen. 3:15).
[10]. He has 18 types in the Old Testament; Haman, Ahab, Cain, Nimrod, etc.
[11]. He will be an uninvited guest at the marriage, who will be cast out! (see Est. 4-8).

22:15-22 "What thinkest thou?" In other words, don't give us an infallible truth under God's authority, but your opinion; so we can still retain our.

[1]. Purpose of question is Lk. 20:20
(a). If He says Caesar - He breaks Mosaic Law, for a Jew is forbidden to have any king except a Hebrew (Deut. 17:14-20).
(b). If He says no, He is guilty of sedition and rebellion and can be arraigned as a criminal before the civil government.

[2]. The real question that is answered for us is who gets what?

Thing that are NOT Caesar's:

[1]. Your children - (Ps. 127:3; Gen. 33:5; 48:9; Isa. 8:18; Mk. 9:36:37, Matt. 18: 4,5,10).
[2]. The church - (Acts 20:28; 1 Cor. 1:2; Eph. 1:22; Col. 1:18; Eph. 5:24).
[3]. Your marriage - (Matt. 19:5,6). Because it mirrors our relationship with Christ, (Eph. 5:30-33).
[4]. The Word. Words are thoughts put into a form of description, they belong to whoever formed them; in that way you cannot separate the words from the individual. (Jn. 1:1,2,14; Ps. 12:6,7; Prov. 30:5; Ps. 138:2).

22:23-30 Sadducees - modern counterpart liberals, no resurrections. The reason an angel is never given in marriage is because they are all male (not sexless), as Scofield.

[1]. Every saved woman has a man living in her.
[2]. At the resurrection this man conforms the person in who He dwells, into His own image and bodily shape and form, (Phil. 3:20,21; 1 Jn. 3:1-3).
[3]. At the resurrection the believers become like the elect angels who are IN heaven (1 Tim. 5:21).
[4]. These angels, like the Angel of the Lord, are male (Rev. 21:17).
[5]. The angel of the Lord appears as a 33-year-old make at His resurrection, which is a type of ours (Gal. 4:14; Rom. 8:11; Phil. 3:20,21).
[6]. As such He has a flesh and blood body with no blood (Luke 24:37; 1 Cor. 15:50).
[7]. His promise is that this body we will receive at the "coming in the air" (1 Jn. 3:1-3; 1 Thess. 4:11-18).

22:31,32 Since God is the God of the living, He is the God of those who shall "rise from the dead" (Mk. 12:25). He is not the God of those who remain dead till the 1000 years are finished and are raised at the 2nd resurrection. This group is not only dead physically, but dead spiritually. They have not been quickened so are not rising at the resurrection of the quick (2 Tim. 4:1; 1 Pet. 4:5).

Jesus finishes by quoting Moses, who they stated with - If the Patriarchs don't rise from the dead, then God lied (Gen. 13:15; 26:3; 28:13).

22:34-40 Jesus had shut up the Herodians on the Tribute question, Sadducees on the Resurrection., Pharisees with a Parable.

[1]. Last of big four lawyer, Mk. 12:28 showed double motive, he admired Jesus' ability to answer, but still had to test His mettle.
[2]. Jesus doesn't go to Ex. 20 where everyone expected Him to, but to Deut. 6:5 for the first and Lev. 19:18 for the second (Mk. 12:29) adds "Hear o Israel."
[3]. The entire moral teachings of (Gen. & Deut). can be summed up in two commandments. Paul says the same thing in (Rom. 13:10-13).

22:41-46 Jesus decided they had their shot, it was new His time. The question is based upon (Ps. 110:1), Deity was the problem.
