CHAPTER FOURTEEN
14:1-2 Herod had a guilty conscience for killing John and perhaps he knew something of the prophesies of the resurrection and return of Elijah. (16:14) 14:3-7 Even though Bible preaching is hated, it produces a certain fear, which even cleans the world up a little (Mk. 6:20). You don't need too much imagination to guess what kind of a dance it was. 14:8-12 Herod, as most political leaders, fears everything except God. An unsaved woman makes a religion out of love. [1]. Herod's conscience is weakened by John's preaching (Mk. 6:20).
14:13-14 The time and setting is (Mk. 6; Lk. 9; Jn. 6) - moved with compassion, (9:36; 18:25; Mk. 1:41; 6:34) 14:15-19 The time is now past - post supper (6-8). Prophetically, the scene pictures the feeding of the remnant of Israel during the Tribulation. (Rev. 12:1-15; Mich. 7:14-15; Jer. 50:19,20; Eze. 20:35; Lam. 5:9) 14:20-21 Additional details: [1]. Sat down by companies 50 in a rank - (Mk. 6:39-40) 14:22-25 Jesus often withdraws for special seasons of prayer and many of these are lonely vigils, when no one's praying with Him.
