The
Book of Judges
The Book of Judges was taught by Dr. James Modlish
Judges
5:1-31
Introduction:
Judges
(5) is a song of victory by Deborah and Barak, but It
embodies much more than the obvious. The principal theme
of the chapter (especially the first 12 verses) is
another battle and the second advent of Jesus
Christ.
The best way
to study this is to systematically go through all of the
related verses to get a sense of direction.
I. Christ
comes out of the wilderness (Song of Sol.
3:6)
A. The perfume is a reference to Christ in (Psa. 45:8). (Vs.
6) sets the context "thy throne, 0 God, is forever and
even" quoted in (Heb. 1:8) as referring to Jesus
Christ.
In verses
(3-4) Christ has a real sword which matches (Rev. 19) and
the second advent. When He returns, He is spoken of as an
anointed King. (vs. 1,7)
B.
"...like pillars of smoke" - (Song of Sol.
3:6)
When the
Jews came out of the land of Egypt they were led by a
pillar of smoke. (Ex. 13:21,22) It took them down Mount
Sinai and then north by the "King's Highway" (Num.
20:14-21; Deut. 2:3-8) on the east side of the Dead Sea
and crossed the Jordan where Jesus was baptized. When
Jesus returns, He will follow the same route, cross the
Jordan where He was baptized, go through Jericho and
Gilgal and come in the east side of the Mount of Olives
through the eastern gate. The principal chapters that
show this route are (Zech. 14; Hab. 3; Isa. 63; Psa. 68;
Jud. 5; Deut. 33).
C.
Prophetic anticipation - (Deut. 33:1-3)
The things
being described didn't happen in Exodus, Leviticus or
Numbers. For example:
[1].
He didn't shine forth then.
[2]. He didn't come with 10,000 saints.
[3]. All the saints weren't in His hand - that
doesn't find fulfillment until (Jn. 10:28). The text
indicates the route goes northward through Edom and
begins to cross around the Dead Sea on the east side,
coming through Arnon around the land of Moab and the
Ammonites (Zeph. 2:9)
D.
The song that didn't happen - (Jud. 5:2-12)
[1].
Notice in (vs. 4) "when thou wentest out of Jeir, when
thou marchedst out of the field of Edom." That didn't
happen in the battle of Barak and Jael in (Jud. 4).
They weren't fighting within a hundred miles of Edom
and Mt. Seir, that battle in (Jud. 4) took place up by
Kishon and Megiddo near Jezreel in north
Palestine.\
[2].
"The mountains melted from before the Lord, even that
Sinai" (vs. 5); that didn't happen in Ex. 19 and
20.
[3]. "lead captivity captive" (vs. 12). That
is quoted as Jesus Christ in (Eph. 4:8).
[4]. We're going to have a dress rehearsal
when we get to heaven (vs. 10,11), because when we
rehearse up there what we are going to do down here,
we get dressed (Rev. 19:8) without spot or wrinkle
(Eph. 5:27). That is, it all gets ironed out.
[5]. The rehearsal is on white asses, just
like Jesus Christ was on Palm Sunday (Jn. 12:14). The
real show is on white horses (Rev. 19:14).
II. The
Advent itself (Psa. 68)
A.
Second Advent - (vs. 1,2)
[1].
March through the wilderness - (vs. 7)
[2]. Chariots of God - (vs. 17)
[3]. Captivity captive - (vs. 18)
[4]. Wound the head - (vs. 21)
[5]. Rapture - (vs. 22)
[6]. Advent - (vs. 23)
[7]. Millennium - (vs. 25-33)
B.
(Isa. 63:1-4)
Christ came
the first time to die for our sins; He comes the second
time to bring vengeance on people.
C.
(Hab. 3:1-5)
[1].
Teman is the name of one of Esau's boys. He's Duke
Teman in (Gen. 36:15), and he settles in Edom and the
Temanites come from him. Mt. Paran is a mountain in
Edom.
[2]. Chariots of salvation - (vs. 8)
[3]. The great deep opening up for Him to come
down - (vs. 10)
[4]. Sun and moon conking out - (vs. 11), as
in Joshua.
[5]. Here you come! - (vs. 15)
D.
(Zech. 14:1-3)
Gather the
nations (United Nations) against Jerusalem.
Summary:
These
verses teach this: one of these days, pretty soon, after
the Christians are caught out at the rapture, the Lord is
going to return to this earth. When He comes back to this
earth He will come down through the galaxies, solar
systems, nebulas, star clusters, and He will come down
from the north. When He comes down He will come down
across the side of the earth to Sinai. He will come down
at Sinai in the air and move across Sinai, and He will
come up from Sinai, up to Edom, up to Seir, up through
Paran, up the King's highway, on the east side of the
Dead Sea, turn at the north end of the Dead Sea and cross
at the place where lie was baptized, come across to
Gilgal, step off that white steed that travels about
120,000 light years per second, put His foot on the
ground on the Mount of Olives, and the mountain splits
right in two. Christ said, "If ye have faith as a grain
of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove
hence to yonder place; and it shall remove." So, He puts
that foot down, and the Mount Olivet breaks off, and He
gets back on that steed and comes down through the
eastern gate (which is cemented shut; Kaiser Wilhelm was
going to try and go through before the war blew up). He
will come down through that eastern gate into Jerusalem
and go in the temple and sit down on the Holy of Holies
and put one arm on one cherub and one arm on the other
(just like the devil did three and a half years before)
and, brother, then it is going to be "bow down, or
else."
