Timothy Two (continued)
(THE
GRACE OF THE LORD JESUS CHRIST)
Introduction:
We are
going to break this chapter down into more detail than we
have done in this series. Our examination of the
scriptures today will spring board from one verse of this
great chapter. The commandment is to "be strong in the
grace that is in Christ Jesus." To better under stand
this admonition we should get a biblical definition of
grace and see some of the kinds of grace available to the
Christian. Webster defines grace as "unmerited divine
assistance given man for his regeneration or
sanctification." This is verified in (Rom. 11:6).
KINDS
OF GRACE:
[1].
Saving
Grace -
Acts 15:11; Eph. 2:8,9; Titus 2:11
A.
Truth
- John 1:14-17 - The very fact that God determined to
reveal the truth to mankind is a monumental act of
grace.
To
be strong in grace requires a growing period where
we strive for maturity. (2 Peter 3:18)
[2]. Changed
Life Grace
Not
only does the Grace of God save, but it also changes
lives and turns them around 180 degrees. The classic
example is the Apostle Paul (I Cor. 15:9,10). There is
no other explanation for so many changed lives except
for the Grace of God. (Acts 11:23)
[3].
Great
Task Grace
There
have been many occasions w e with a persons heart to
do a specific task. At times those things seem to
border on impossible. God has always given the grace
to do it, if we will accept it (Acts 4:33; Gen.
6:8).
[4].
Giving
grace
The
truth of the matter is that God expects more of a
Christian than his carnal old nature will allow him to
give. Therefore, God gives a giving grace when people
need it. It is always available, but many refuse to
accept it (2 Cor. 9:8).
[5].
Gifts
God
endows some with special talents that are labeled as
acts of grace (Eph. 4:7).
[6].
Protection
- (Jer. 31:2)
[7].
Suffering
Grace
- (2 Cor. 12:9)
It
has often been said that all grace is available as it
is needed. Perhaps there is no situation that
demonstrates that as clearly as a suffering person who "calls upon the name of the Lord."
[8].
Dying
Grace
- (Heb. 2:9,10)
How
to receive grace:
[1]. Humble
yourself
- (I Peter 5:5; James 4:6; Eph. 3:8; Prov. 3:34)
[2]. Pray
about it
- (2 Cor. 12:5-9)
[3]. Realize
grace is for the purpose of
service
(Heb. 12:28) - why should God give you grace if you
intend to do nothing with it? (2 Cor. 6:1)
