At the time that Paul
writes this letter to the Thessalonicans, Christians are
being killed and persecuted because they would not bow
and worship the Roman Caesar who had declared himself to
be a deity. It was natural for them to believe they were
in the tribulation because their times certain had some
of the characteristics of Daniel's 70th week. However,
Paul writes to set them straight on other things to watch
for. Those things are listed in the text of (2 Thess.
2).
[1]. A falling away
- (I Tim. 4:1-3; 2 Tim. 3:1-5; 2 Tim. 4:3,4).
[2]. The man of sin, son of perdition be
revealed.
The anti-christ has
two titles even as Jesus has two titles, which are the
Son of Man, the Son of God.
Only one man in the Bible
is called the son of perdition (Jn. 17:12).
Judas was not completely
human (Jn. 6:70,71). Judas is the greek name for Juda,
that is a Jew, and Iscariot is a compound word meaning
a man from Kerioth. "lsh" meaning man of, or from,
Cariot referring to Kerioth (Jer.
48:24,25,41).
And so Judas was a Syrian
Jew, the only one of the disciples not directly from
Israel.
A further description is
given in (Zech. 11:12 17) telling us the Anti-christ
will have a bad arm and a bad right eye.
Judas, being the son of
perdition, went to his own place (Act
1:25).
This place is further
described in (Rev. 9:11;17:8).
It all comes together
when you realize:
A. The word Christ
means anointed
B. The Devil was
called an anointed Cherub (Eze. 28:14).
C. Therefore there
are more than one Christ (Acts 4:26; Luke
2:26).
D. The Devil also has
a son (Gen. 3:15; 1 Jn. 3:12; 2 Cor. 11:1-3).
The antichrist is more than
just a rival or counterfeit Christ, he is an opposing
Christ. This is clearly seen when we compare him with
Christ in a series of:
[3]. The
exaltation of the antichrist (vs. 4). The Bible teaches
that there will be a world ruler who will rise up and
unite Europe in a great federation (the ten toes of
Daniel's image, Dan. 2). According to (Rev. 170, the
anti-christ will cooperate with the prevalent religious
system of the day (Read Rev. 17 and see if you can figure
out what it is) in his rise to power. He will make a
covenant with the Jews and in the middle of it (3 1/2
yrs. into the Trib.) will break it and set himself up to
be worshipped in the temple (Dan. 9:27; Matt.
24:13-15)
[4]. The destruction of the antichrist (vs. 8)
The destruction comes "with the spirit of his
mouth".
(Rev. 19:13,15; 2 Thess.
1:8; Heb. 4:12; Mal. 4:1-3; Zech. 14:12; Eze. 20-47; 1
Chron. 21:15; 17,22; Isa. 34:1-6).
Evidently the Lake of Fire
will be upon the earth in the location described in (Isa.
34) during the Millennium. (See Matt. 5:22; 13:47-50;
Rev. 19:20; Isa. 66:20-24; Num. 16:29-35)
